Recycling

All office waste goes to recycling. Separate bins are not technically necessary as our contractors sort everything on the collection, but for simplicity and further energy economy, we have installed clearly marked mixed recycling bins.

The buildings themselves are ‘recycled’, and by repurposing rather than levelling and rebuilding we save around 80% of the carbon created by NewBuild.

Power

We have a large solar installation on the roof of The Bridge which we hope to extend in future, plus a number of electric vehicle charging points around the site. Lighting in the buildings is mostly LED, and much of our external lighting is on timer or dawn-to-dusk. We have full double-glazing throughout and energy-efficient boilers which are regularly maintained and serviced for maximum energy efficiency.

Access

We encourage cycle to work schemes and have showers to facilitate that, plus secure cycle parking. The location is ideally placed for public transport.

By planning the redevelopment of the main body of The Concourse into storage and warehouse facilities we are aiming to reduce HGV traffic and carbon emissions, at the same time improving air quality, limiting road damage and enhancing the lives of our residential neighbours.

Local Environment

The maintenance we undertake on the River Churn should help to alleviate flood issues and reduce risk, preventing damage to the environment and the expenditure of energy used in constant flood clean up.

We have riparian responsibilities for the Churn which surrounds the seven-acre site, the first tributary of the River Thames which dates back to the pre-Roman occupation of the area. We retain landscape professionals to maintain the bed and banks of the watercourse and protect the trees and shrubs growing on the periphery for fish and local wildlife, whilst ensuring all flood defences, including the attenuation tanks on the land, operate efficiently.

General

When and where possible we buy locally to reduce the carbon footprint of transport. We also seek ecologically sound products where we can; examples would be our cleaning products which are biodegradable.
